Meet the Santa Ana Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.

We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door won’t budge at 6 a.m. or when you’re staring at a bent track after backing out too fast. Every person on this page works out of our Santa Ana shop, lives in Orange County, and has been trained under the same rule: fix it right the first time, treat the house like it’s yours, and don’t leave until the customer understands what we did. No layers of management, no out-of-town contractors, just the same faces you’ll see again if something needs a follow-up.

Our People

Carl Dutton, Owner

I’ve been running Mainspring since 1984, back when Santa Ana was mostly orange groves and the 5 freeway ended somewhere around Tustin. Started this company because I couldn’t stand watching homeowners get talked into full door replacements when a $12 roller and an hour of honest labor would have solved it. Still answer the phone myself some nights, still climb ladders when we’re short-handed, still write the 90-Day Done Right Promise on every invoice by hand. My wife says I talk about torsion springs at dinner parties. She’s not wrong. When I’m not in the field, I’m usually at the shop testing new openers or arguing with suppliers about why their “universal” bracket never actually fits a 1987 Wayne Dalton.

Mike R., Lead Technician

Mike joined us in 2017 after ten years fixing elevators, which turns out to be surprisingly good preparation for garage door counterbalance systems. He’s the one we send when a spring breaks on a solid wood carriage door in Floral Park or when a customer in West Floral Park has tried three other companies and still hears a grinding noise. Certified in high-cycle spring calculation and weirdly talented at spotting a frayed cable before it snaps. Off the clock, Mike restores vintage motorcycles in a garage so packed he has to move a 1972 Honda to get to his toolbox. He claims the patience for carburetor rebuilds makes him better at tuning finicky Genie screw-drive openers. Might be true.

Sandra V., Senior Installer

Sandra came over from commercial door work in 2019, and she’s the reason our new-door installs in Santa Ana finish in one day instead of two. She knows Clopay’s pinch-resistant hinge spacing by memory and can spot an out-of-plumb opening before the jambs go in, which saves everyone a headache three months later. Her specialty is retrofitting older Santa Ana homes, the ones with 7-foot openings and settled framing that isn’t quite square anymore. Grew up in the Delhi neighborhood, still lives there with two dogs who apparently hate the sound of garage door openers. Sandra’s the one who convinced us to start carrying Amarr’s Stratford collection in stock, after too many customers in Washington Square wanted that specific stamped-carriage look and didn’t want to wait six weeks.

Danny K., Service Coordinator

Danny’s been answering our phones since 2021, though “answering” understates it. He’s the one who figures out whether you need a technician today or whether we can talk you through releasing the opener from the door so you can get to work. Knows the difference between a broken torsion spring and a disconnected cable based on how the customer describes the sound, which matters because it determines which truck we send. Danny keeps the schedule honest, too. If he says we’ll be there between 2 and 4, we’re there between 2 and 4. He grew up in Santa Ana’s Madison Park neighborhood, went to Santa Ana High, and still catches lunch at Taqueria Tapatia when the dispatch board is quiet. He’s also the reason our Spanish-speaking customers don’t get transferred to a call center.

Jordan T., Apprentice

Jordan started with us in 2023, fresh from the Orange County Trade School’s maintenance technician program. Right now they’re shadowing Mike on spring replacements and learning to measure door openings the way Sandra does it, which means measuring three times and writing the number down once. Already decent at opener programming and surprisingly good with customers who want to know exactly what’s happening. Jordan lives in an apartment near MainPlace Mall with no garage, which they claim is “actually kind of relaxing.” We’re not sure we believe them. They’ll be running their own truck by next year if the spring-winding practice keeps going this well.

One Standard, Every Job

Every person on this page works under the same written promise: the 90-Day Done Right Promise. If something we installed or repaired isn’t right, we come back. No paperwork to file, no manager to escalate to, no arguing about whether the issue is “covered.” It’s printed on your invoice because Carl started putting it there in 1984 and never stopped. Our technicians arrive in uniform, background-checked, with springs and openers already on the truck so most jobs finish in one visit. The K.E.Y.S. code, Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it, isn’t a poster on the wall. It’s how we decide who to hire and how we settle disagreements in the field. Same standard in Santa Ana as everywhere else we work. No exceptions, no shortcuts, no surprises on the bill.
